Baku, Azerbaijan, April 20

By Sadraddin Agjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan's Azercosmos OJSC successfully completed the first quarter of 2020 amid the ongoing negative consequences of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemics, a source in the company told Trend.

According to the source, the revenues of Azercosmos from the optic satellite and telecommunication services from January through March of this year amounted to 20 million manat ($11.7 million), which is 33 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

Eighty-eight percent of the revenues came from exporting satellite services. Azercosmos exported satellite services to 24 countries, including among others, the US, the UK, France, Germany and the UAE.

Despite the negative impact of coronavirus on the satellite services market, Azercosmos has signed new contracts with a number of companies including French GORSE&Co and Zetit, Italian M-Tree Sat, Austrian Zebrafish, Spanish Oasis Networks, American UltiSat, Indian Sofstol and Mediatech PVT, Russian VES-Media as well as Sairtek, GlobeCast and Telly4Africa satellite companies serving African countries.

Under the new contracts, these companies provide telecommunications services using the capacities of the Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 satellites.

The structures of the countries of Central Asia and Eastern Europe, including Azerbaijan, have used images obtained from the Azersky satellite in agricultural, cartographic and environmental monitoring.

Moreover, the universal Azercosmos Ground Station will enable to pass to satellites owned by various satellite operators on the basis of a contract signed in May 2019 with the Japanese Infostellar company.

Azercosmos is the premier satellite operator in the South Caucasus. Azerspace-1, the telecommunication satellite operated by Azercosmos, provides highly-reliable broadband and broadcast solutions to its customers in Europe, Africa, Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

The company operates two communications satellites - Azerspace-1, Azerspace-2, and the low-orbit satellite Azersky.
