The Uzbek government intends to significantly increase the country's gold and silver resources, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

As reported, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of geological exploration in Uzbekistan.

"Over the past three years, important decisions have been taken to radically reform this sphere, and budget allocations in the sector have tripled. This year, 1.6 trillion soum ($157.1 million) has been allocated for exploration works in order to consistently continue reforms in the sphere.

"Exploration expansion issues were considered at the meeting, and it is planned to attract foreign investments into the sphere. The head of state stressed the necessity of expansion of gold and silver resources, copper reserves and non-metallic minerals by the end of the 2020," said the report.

Mirziyoyev also instructed to ensure modernization of 385 units of geophysical, drilling, mining and laboratory equipment this year. A task has been set to explore 16 promising hydrocarbon sites by the end of 2020 and confirm the volume of reserves in 23 new deposits.
