More than 500 rural settlements in Kazakhstan are to be provided with broadband internet in 2020, a representative of Kazakhstan’s Zerde National ICT Holding told Trend.
The work is being carried out within the framework of 'Digital Kazakhstan' State Program.
Zerde National ICT Holding is dealing with implementation of a 'Digital Kazakhstan' program in the country. The main goal of the program is improvement of Kazakhstan's economy competitiveness and quality of life through the progressive development of the digital ecosystem.
The Zerde official said that the share of public services carried out in electronic form as well as the number of start-up companies supported by technology parks, incubators and accelerators will be increased in 2020.
The measures to increase opportunities to teach basic ICT competencies and programming, expansion of ICT infrastructure will also be taken this year within the framework of the program.
The holding representative added that due to the vast territory of Kazakhstan, with the presence of more than 6,600 settlements, some of which are located in remote and inaccessible areas, there are facts of lagging in data network development in rural settlements.
“This is why the ‘Digital Kazakhstan’ State Program oversees a project for provision of broadband access to the Internet in rural settlements, which is currently underway. Broadband access is provided by wired technologies such as FTTx, ADSL and 3G, 4G wireless technology and satellite communications. This year, 509 rural settlements are to be provided with broadband access networks,” the Zerde official said.
The representative noted that broadband access has already been provided to 117 cities and 3,324 villages with a population of 250 or more people.
Zerde holding is the largest Kazakh state company, created in 2018 for the development of modern ICT and communication technology market, implementation of innovative projects and formation of unified ICT environment.
