Azerbaijani developers talk on investment in game projects

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.18

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Many investors consider game projects as a short-term profit-making platform, Fariz Badalzade, co-founder of Bad Button Studio & Game Investor, said during an online event Gametech Azerbaijan, Trend reports on Dec.18.

According to Badalzade, the company was founded in 2018 with 20-25 employees. During its formation, the company needed support, however, as its co-founder noted, many investors wanted to make sure that after 3-4 months they would be able to make a profit.

"I would like to note that the game industry sector in our country is just beginning to develop. I believe that the state should be interested in developing this industry and support it with various kinds of incentives," he noted. "For example, in Belarus, Ukraine, and some other countries, the state directly finances these industries, allocating a certain percentage of budget funds to them, and also provides incentives and tax benefits."

The event’s another participant Director of AzDimension game development studio Farid Khagverdiyev noted that the company was supported by the state.

"Several years ago, on the initiative of our company, the computer game ‘Shusha’ was developed. Our goal was to develop games related to Karabakh, and we initially didn’t have goals to create a game studio," he said.

Khagverdiyev added that at the request of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, he received an application to develop games related to Karabakh.

"After this, it was decided to create AzDimension and receive further orders from various ministries. Recently, our interaction with the state isn’t so active as it was before. Today we have established cooperation with many local and foreign companies and investors," he summed up.
