Kazakhstan to establish new mobile operator

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 21

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

A new mobile operator is to start operating in Kazakhstan, Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Agency for Protection and Development of Competition Serik Zhumangarin said, Trend reports citing Kazinform news agency.

Zhumangarin noted that currently the Transtelecom company is working on launching local mobile operator.

Currently two major mobile services providers operate in Kazakhstan – Kazakhtelecom (which operates Tele2 and Kcell companies) and Beeline.

The Transtelecom company is looking to launch its own mobile operator next year. It is expected that the new operator will account for 5 percent of the mobile services market by 2025. However, as Zhumangarin noted, these forecasts may not become a reality.

“These operators usually display rapid, exponential growth. Transtelecom is a private company that provides services to villages, which are located along the railroad,” he said.

Transtelecom JSC is one of the largest communication operators in Kazakhstan. The company specializes in provision of a wide range of telecommunication services, digitalization and system integration in the field of IT, communications, automation and energy.
