The Azerbaijani AileTV Internet service provider company in Baku plans to carry out a large-scale upgrade of digital broadcasting on May 31, specialist of the company’s marketing department Sabir Mashadizadeh told Trend.

According to Mashadizadeh, this upgrade will improve the quality of broadcasting and the number of digital channels, especially in HD format. In terms of technical infrastructure, the digital cable TV service will be upgraded due to the transition to more modern standards.

"We are talking about changing the current 128 QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) to a more modern 256 QAM," he said.

Besides, according to him, all subscribers who currently use AileTV digital broadcasting services will be disconnected, and in order to continue watching, they will have to update their receivers by taking certain steps.

"We have already prepared video instructions for our subscribers, and when switching to the new broadcasting format, our company's specialists will do everything necessary for this upgrade to pass as quickly as possible and without problems for subscribers," he noted.

QAM is used to transmit digital signals and provides for a discrete change in the state of the carrier segment simultaneously in phase and amplitude. The modulation level determines the number of carrier states used to transmit information. So, 16 QAM modulation transmits four bits of information, and 256 QAM - eight bits.
