BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 22. The World Bank (WB) informed this week about the improvement of Azerbaijan’s position in the bank’s GovTech Maturity Index/GTMI from B group to A group, Trend reports.

According to the WB, the country got 0.775 points in GTMI, which includes countries with the top level of governance digitalization as compared to 0.604 points in the 2020 index.

Azerbaijan is the only country in the South Caucasus to be included in the A group, the bank added.

Besides, Uklon LLC company (the first and largest Ukrainian company providing taxi services), has been registered in Azerbaijan this week.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's mobile, and broadband data transfer rates for March 2023 in Speedtest Global Index ranking were disclosed. So, the average download speed for the country's mobile internet access was 39.46 Mbps (5.3 percent more than the previous month), and for broadband internet access - 27.84 Mbps (a growth of 0.98 percent).

Thus, according to Ookla, in the reporting month, Azerbaijan ranked 54th among 140 countries in mobile data download speed and 118th among 180 countries in broadband internet data transfer rate.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan said this week that Azerbaijan aims to invest in the ecosystem of innovations, human capital, and technology companies.

According to the ministry, work is underway in the country on digitalization projects and the development of state, public, and business projects, developing appropriate strategies.

The ministry also noted that artificial intelligence is widely used in Azerbaijan, and a corresponding strategy has been prepared by state agencies, the adoption of which is anticipated in the near future.

The work is also conducted on the transition to a completely digital environment and on the full rejection of paper records management.

Furthermore, the ministry said that the Draft Law on Personal Data of Azerbaijan brought into line with the European GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation) standard is expected to be adopted this year.

The ministry added that Azersky, a remote Earth observation satellite owned by the Open Joint Stock Company Azercosmos (Azercosmos OJSC), has completed its mission one year ahead of its estimated exploitation.

The exchange of information with the Azersky satellite has stopped, and although Azercosmos OJSC and the satellite manufacturer took measures to restore communication, it was not possible to establish communication with the satellite, the ministry explained.
