New ITU Secretary General Elected
On November 10, the new Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was elected during the plenary session of its 17th Plenipotentiary Conference that is held in Antalia. Malian Hamadoun TourГ© was elected as the new head of the organization, Trend reports quoting the statement of the organization. Earlier, this post was held by Yoshio Utsumi.
The elections were held in two stages. After the first stage two candidates from Jordan and Tunis withdrew their candidature. After the second stage, 2 more candidates withdrew their candidatures. In result, 157 out of 173 countries voted for two candidates - Malian Hamadoun TourГ© and German Matthias Kurth.
