Azercell Concluded First Roaming GPRS/MMS Agreements with Israel and Canada
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr. S. Babayeva/ Azerbaijan's leading mobile provider -Azercell JSC has offered a new roaming mobile communication service in the field of GPRS/MMS with other two new foreign mobile operators to its subscribers, a source in the Press-Service of the Company has told Trend today.
It has become possible due to the two agreements been signed with Partner and Celcom operators from Israel and Rogers and Fido from Canada today in Baku on 16 March 16 , 2007. Azercell Telecom JV has put into operation GPRS/MMS roaming service with the above-mentioned foreign mobile operators. This is the first GPRS/MMS roaming agreement with both countries.
Up to date, Azercell Telecom JV has signed the GPRS/MMS roaming agreement with 77 network operators from 36 countries around the world.
Notably, Azerbaijan's leading mobile operator has signed roaming agreements in the field of GPRS/MMS with 77 network operators from 36 countries Moreover, up to date, Azercell has concluded roaming agreements with over 317 mobile providers from more than 136 countries.
The number of subscribers of Azercell Telecom JSC is set up to increase. Today, this number exceeds 2.4 mln. At the beginning of the activity of the Company in 1997, the number of its subscribers was 10,000. The Company covers 78.4% of the territory and 98.8% of the population of Azerbaijan with its mobile communication network.
The number of the Azercell base stations installed in the country exceeded 1,000.
Azercell JSC was established on January 19, 1996. Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S and the Azerbaijan Telecommunications and Information Technologies Ministry were the first founders of the Mobile Provider. The Company has launched its activity on December 15, 1996 by offering mobile telecommunication services on the basis of post payment to its subscribers. In 1998, the operator introduced the system of prepayment - tariff plan SimSim.
