Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Communications Baku.
"Consultations were held at the Tariff Council and it was decided that it too premature to apply these limitations," the minister stressed.
The application to limit the time of local talks was not to be applied only in Baku. It was proposed that the free monthly calls would be limited to a total of 450 minutes a month, after which time the subscriber would have to pay per minute for any calls made.
Abbasov noted that at the meeting of the Tariff Council a decision was adopted the increase subscription fees for telephone talks to AZN 2 a month. The current fee is AZN 0.7 a month. The Ministry estimated the direct price of each landline telephone in Azerbaijan is AZN 3.
The minister said that instead of increasing subscription fees, the cost of international calls will be reduced by 35%-40%. "This is the third drop in the cost of international calls," he added.
