Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Communications and Information Technology, stated on 17 May his agreement with the resolution by the Tariff Council to increase monthly subscription fees for local telephone talks. This increase will enable carrying out projects which provide opportunities for additional investments.

From 1 June monthly subscription fee for telephone calls was increased to AZN 2 from the current AZN 0.7. In exchange charges for long-distance calls within the country will be decreased from AZN 0.09 to AZN 0.07 per minute. The tariffs for international calls were cut for all categories of subscribers.

"The direct cost of the subscription fee costs AZN 3, while we will charge only AZN 2," the minister stressed.

Abbasov noted that despite an increase of the subscription fee, major expenses of the Ministry will be covered at the expense of the international calls.

He noted that the proposal by the Ministry on the application of the limits on local calls remains in force and the Ministry will come up with relevant initiatives in succession on a demand-and-supply basis.

In February the Ministry proposed that the Tariff Council increase the monthly subscription fee for local telephone calls with a 450-minute free limit, after the expiration of which the subscriber is required to carry out a per-minute payment.
