Baktelekom Reconstructs Old ATE

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / Baktelekom Production Unit of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan began reconstructing the old Automatic Telephone Exchanges (ATE) with the following indications 471/472/473, 474/475/476 and 423 on the basis of newer technologies of Nехt Generation Network (NGN), said the Director General of the Unit, Beytulla Huseynov.

The work should be completed within two months. The total number of telephones equals 90,000.

Huseynov said that preparations are being made for the next tender on reconstruction of the stations 494/495, and 438/39. The tender is planned to be announced in mid-July. The capacity of each station is 20,000 numbers.

The head of the Unit said that presently, 85% of telephone communication in Baku has been made electronic. The number of telephone apparatus for every one hundred people is thirty-nine units.

The rest of Baku's telephone system should be completely made electronic by the end of the third quarter of 2007. All telephone networks are planned to be reconstructed by the end of 2008 within the program "E-Azerbaijan".
