Tourism revenues in Georgia increase

The income from arriving tourists into Georgia amounted to $1.1 billion in January-May 2019, which is 101 million more than last year (+9.8 percent growth), the country's National Tourism Administration said in a statement, Trend reports referring to apsny.ge.

In May, revenues from foreign tourists amounted to $281 million (+14.2 percent growth), which is $35 million more compared to the same period last year.

“I am glad that the number of high-paying tourists is increasing, so the revenues in the sphere of tourism are increasing. The goal of our marketing campaign is to master new tourist markets and attract more wealthy tourists from the EU, the US and the Middle East to Georgia,” said Mariam Kvrivishvili, head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

In May 2019, the number of international visitors to Georgia amounted to more than 723,100 people (an increase of 14.2 percent growth in comparison with May of last year), Trend reports with reference to Georgian National Tourism Administration.

It is also noted that the most significant increase in the number of tourists was recorded from Kyrgyzstan (135.4 percent growth), Uzbekistan (90.5 percent growth), Kazakhstan (84.6 percent growth), China (56.4 percent growth), Belarus (56.4 percent growth) and the US (33.9 percent growth).

As the data for the five months of 2019 shows, over this period, almost three million international visits were recorded in Georgia (5.4 percent growth compared to the same period of last year). The number of tourist visits during this period amounted to more than 1.6 million (7.9 percent growth).
