Passenger traffic in Georgia up by 18.2%

An increase in the number of passengers is observed in Georgia - about 2.5 million people used the international airports of Georgia in the first half of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The mentioned figure is 18.2 percent more than in the same period of 2018.

Regular and charter flights from January to June 2019 were carried out by 46 airlines, which is 13.2 percent less compared to the same period of 2018.

Will Air leads the way as the one with most flights, followed by Turkish Airlines, Georgian Airways, Ural Airlines (Russia) and Pobeda Airlines (Russia).

Meanwhile, passenger traffic growth was recorded at three international airports of the country.

The Shota Rustaveli International Airport in Tbilisi remains the most popular one in Georgia - in the first half of the year it handled about 1.9 million passengers.

Kutaisi International Airport ranks second in popularity, followed by Batumi International Airport.

As for the airports of Mestia and Ambrolauri, which carry out domestic flights, from the beginning of the year they serviced more than 4000 passengers.

In particular, about 3,500 passengers (an increase of 32.4 percent) used the airport in Mestia, and 599 people (an increase of 45.4 percent) used the Ambrolauri airport.
