Starting direct flights with the US will be an important step forward from both a political and economic point of view, said the Director of the Airport Association of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Georgi Chogovadze, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.
Chogovadze, together with the Georgian delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, will meet with the United Airlines representatives in Chicago.
“Our delegation has been preparing for this visit for several months. In Chicago, we will meet with America’s largest airline, United Airlines, and Atlanta Airlines in Atlanta, which in terms of number of destinations is one of the largest airlines in the world,” said Chogovadze.
According to Chogovadze, Georgia is the only country in the region where the aviation market has grown unprecedentedly fast in recent years. Over the past six years, growth has increased by 24 percent.
According to the director of the Georgian Airports Association, in 2018 Georgian airports served 5,033,119 passengers, which is almost four times more than 7 years ago. Along with other factors, the growth of interest in the country's aviation market was facilitated by the liberal policy in the field of Georgian civil aviation implemented by Georgia, the implementation of direct flights and the emergence of new airlines.
