All five Georgian airports served 583,104 passengers in August 2019, which is 11 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports citing the Georgian Airport Association.

According to data for the eight months of this year, from January to August, Georgia's airports served a total of 3,640,823 passengers, which is eight percent more than the same period in 2018.

According to the Association of Airports of Georgia, of all international airports, only Kutaisi Airport ended August with an increase in passenger traffic, as its statistics were least affected by the suspension of direct flights from Russia.

“Given the growth dynamics observed at Georgian airports in recent years, including in the two quarters of 2019, we expected an unprecedented increase in the number of visitors in August, but the consequences of the June 20 political events gave us the opposite picture. It should be emphasized that the recession that occurred in August was minimized as a result of steps taken by the Georgian government to assist sectors affected by the flight ban from Russia,” the Georgian Airports Association said in a statement.
