Number of visits of foreign travelers to Georgia exceeds 9 mln

Over nine million international visits (non-resident travelers of age 15 or older, who visited Georgia from their area of residence) were recorded in 2019 in Georgia, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

Mariam Kvrivishvili, head of Georgian National Tourism Administration presented the annual work report on December 30, 2019, at the meeting, which was attended by Georgian Prime Minister Georgi Gakharia. Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, representatives of various government departments, the private sector, the diplomatic corps, donor organizations and the media also participated in the meeting.

Kvrivishvili summed up the results of the projects implemented by the administration, and reviewed the statistics for 2019.

According to her, for the first time in the history of Georgia in 2019, over nine million international visits were recorded in the country.

As of December 27, 2019, 9.3 million visits of international travelers (who stay in a country for more than six months not for tourism, but for the purposes of education, employment, family reunion, etc.) were recorded in Georgia. The growth compared to the same period last year amounted to 7.1 percent.

A record indicator is also recorded in the field of tourist visits (visitor who spent at least one night in Georgia). As of December 2019, five million tourists visited Georgia. The growth compared to the same period last year amounted to 6.8 percent.

From January through November 2019, revenue from international travel amounted to $3.05 billion, an increase of $35 million compared to the same period last year.
