Number of foreign tourists up in Iran's Ardabil province

The number of foreign tourists who visited Iran’s north-eastern Ardabil province has increased by 14 percent during 10 months (from March 21, 2019 through January 20, 2020), Director General of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization of the province Nadir Fallahi said.

“Over 610,000 foreign tourists visited the province through Iran’s Bilasuvar checkpoint during the reporting period,” Fallahi added, Trend reports referring to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Fallahi added that more than 527,000 tourists visited the province in the same period of last Iranian year.

“In total, the number of tourists who passed through Bilasuvar checkpoint increased by 12 percent,” the director general of the organization added.

Fallahi said that the majority of tourists accounted for the Azerbaijani citizens.

"The Azerbaijani citizens mainly visit this province for medical treatment," the director general of the organization said. “The number of foreign tourists is expected to increase in the province on the eve of Novruz holiday.”

Bilasuvar district of Iran’s Ardabil province is located on the border with Azerbaijan.
