Georgia's Tourism Administration reveals statistics of visits to country in May 2020

As many as 3,276 visitors from Azerbaijan visited Georgia in May 2020, Trend reports via the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA).

In the reporting period, visits from Azerbaijan to Georgia sharply decreased by 97 percent compared to May last year.

According to GNTA, the countries with the largest number of visitors to Georgia include:

Turkey - 15,863 visitors, a decrease of 77.8 percent year-on-year;
Russia - 3,777 visitors, a decrease of 99.8 percent;
Azerbaijan - 3,276 visitors, a decrease of 96.9 percent;
Georgia (non-resident) - 1,956 visitors, a decrease of 95.1 percent;
Ukraine - 1,003 visitors, a decrease of 94.1 percent;
Belarus - 743 visitors, a decrease of 81.9 percent;
Kazakhstan - 374 visitors, a decrease of 94.9 percent;
Uzbekistan - 320 visitors, a decrease of 71.4 percent;
Bulgaria - 207 visitors, a decrease of 77.3 percent;
Saudi Arabia - 118 visitors, a decrease of 81.3 percent;
Tajikistan - 85 visitors, a decrease of 80.8 percent;
Iran - 76 visitors, a decrease of 98.9 percent;
Moldova - 70 visitors, a decrease of 88.2 percent;
Kyrgyzstan - 70 visitors, a decrease of 93.2 percent.

In May 2020, the number of foreign visitors to Georgia decreased by a record 95 percent and amounted to only 36,358 people.

Domestic tourism has already resumed in Georgia on June 15, and the country was planning to reopen its airspace to international flights starting July 1, but then postponed the reopening till August 1.
