Uzbekistan is introducing “Uzbekistan. Safe Travel Guaranteed” system aimed at ensuring the safety of arriving tourists and the development of international tourism, Trend reports with reference to the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development.
The system includes introduction of tourism-related infrastructure that is safe for traveling foreign tourists.
Services provided to foreign tourists by tour operators are organized only in facilities included in the register of safe facilities of “Uzbekistan. Safe Travel Guaranteed”.
In addition, in order to ensure the safety of tourists, a Safe Tourism Fund is being established.
In case of infection of foreign tourists with COVID-19 during a trip through the territory of Uzbekistan, organized by a tour operator that is a resident of “Uzbekistan. Safe Travel Guaranteed”, compensation payments in the amount of $3,000 will be paid at the expense of the Safe Tourism Fund.
Air traffic was terminated in Uzbekistan from March 16, 2020, and from April 1, 2020, all border checkpoints of the country were closed.
As a result of the quarantine measures taken, from January to September 2020, the number of tourists who arrived in Uzbekistan amounted to 1.35 million, which is 3.6 times less than the same period in 2019 (4.9 million).
