Uzbekistan taking measures to develop religious tourism

Some 90.5 billion soums ($8.6 million) will be allocated for the repair of internal roads with a length of 36 kilometers in the direction of the Etti Pir pilgrimage site in Bukhara region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

It is reported that the government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on additional measures for the development of domestic and pilgrim tourism, according to which the composition of a special commission was approved to determine subsidized air and rail routes, the amount of subsidized air tickets and hotel services.

A special commission provides additional discounts for air tickets - up to 40 percent, for train tickets purchased through tour operators - 15 percent and for hotel services - 10 percent.

It was noted that the amount of tourist (hotel) tax levied on accommodation facilities for each day of a local resident amounts to 0.4 percent of BEV (basic estimated value).

In addition, the qualification examination of employees of tourism organizations, guides (guides-translators), tour guides and instructors-guides will be held from March 1, 2022.

According to the ministry, the allocation of subsidies to air carriers is carried out by the Ministry of Transport, while the return of part of the costs of tour operators and travel agencies for the purchase of air and railway tickets, as well as hotel accommodation services is carried out by the State Committee for Tourism Development.

Furthermore, according to the decree, 90.5 billion soums ($8.6 million) will be allocated for the repair of 36 kilometers of internal roads in the direction of the Etti Pir pilgrimage site in Bukhara region.
