Georgia sees decrease in number of Azerbaijani visitors

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.8

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Some 11,314 people arrived in Georgia from Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2021, Trend reports via the National Tourism Administration of Georgia.

In the first quarter of this year, the number of Azerbaijani visitors decreased by 250,876 people, or 95.7 percent, compared to last year. Visitors from Azerbaijan to Georgia spent an average of 395 lari ($115.93) per visit.

From January through March, a total of 130,188 international guests from neighboring countries visited Georgia, which is 88.4 percent less than the total amount for the first three months of 2020.

Work on Georgian-Azerbaijani tourism packages has been resumed. The two countries planned a joint tourism tour in 2019 for 2020. Neighboring countries should have created joint tourism packages for the representatives of the third country. However, coronavirus postponed the planned cooperation.

After the epidemiological situation in both countries became manageable, the parties updated the plan.
