Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov at VI meeting of tourism ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states proposed to make Kokand city in Fergana region the tourist capital of the Turkic Council, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

"The Uzbek side nominates the city of Kokand, which occupies a special place in the development of the Turkic world and peoples, made a significant contribution to the development of the Silk Road, and we ask you to support this city as the first tourist capital of the Turkic Council," Abdukhakimov said.

He noted that Uzbekistan supports the "tourist capital" initiative, with the help of which it is necessary to develop not only popular tourist destinations, but also cities with high tourist potential.

“In turn, I assure you that within the framework of this initiative, practical measures will be developed and successfully implemented, aimed at comprehensively strengthening tourism ties between our cities,” Abdukhakimov said.

In addition, the minister stressed that the development of the transport system between the member states of the Council and the observer states is a topical issue.

For this, according to Abdukhakimov, the countries should organize regular and charter flights between cities, launch tourist trains, buses and provide tourists with the opportunity to travel by their own car.

At the same time, he stressed that countries need to take a new approach to work to promote tourism potential.
