Tourist influx from Central Asian countries to Azerbaijan soars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. A total of 13,900 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan in March 2024, which is 57 percent higher than the figure for the same period in 2023 (8,849), Trend reports.

According to the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the number of tourists from Kazakhstan amounted to 7,375 (up 130 percent over the year), Uzbekistan - 3,105 (up one percent over the year), Turkmenistan - 2,619 (up 39 percent over the year), Kyrgyzstan - 493 (up 33 percent over the year), Tajikistan - 308 people (down three percent over the year).

Meanwhile, 36,154 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan from January through March this year, which is 84 percent higher than the figure for the same period in 2023 (19,659 people).

A total of 513,413 foreigners visited Azerbaijan from January through March of the current year, which is 39 percent more than in the same period of 2023 (369,072).

However, 2,086,548 foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan in 2023, which is more than 30.2 percent higher than in 2022 (1,602,600), and 134,589 people from Central Asian countries, which is 82.31 percent higher than in 2022 (73,823).

To note, a total of 545,730 people visited Azerbaijan from Central Asian countries in 2017–2023 (from Kazakhstan - 225,124, Turkmenistan - 145,216, Uzbekistan - 135,941, Kyrgyzstan - 21,296, Tajikistan - 18,153).
