BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10. A total of 14,827 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan in May 2024, which is 19 percent higher than the figure for the same period in 2023 (12,462), Trend reports.
According to the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the number of tourists from Kazakhstan amounted to 6,918 (31 percent year-on-year growth), Uzbekistan - 3,910 (two percent year-on-year reduction), Turkmenistan - 2,751 (18 percent year-on-year growth), Kyrgyzstan - 645 (15 percent year-on-year growth), and Tajikistan - 603 (102 percent year-on-year growth).
However, 63,809 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan from January through May this year, which is 54 percent more than in the same period of 2023 (41,514 people).
Additionally, 965,555 foreigners visited Azerbaijan in the reporting period of the current year, which is 35 percent more than the same period in 2023 (713,386).
Meanwhile, 2,086,548 foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan in 2023, which is more than 30.2 percent higher than the figure of 2022 (1,602,600), including 134,589 from Central Asian countries, which is 82.31 percent higher than the figure of 2022 (73,823).
Overall, 545,730 people visited Azerbaijan from Central Asian countries in 2017–2023 (from Kazakhstan - 225,124; Turkmenistan - 145,216; Uzbekistan - 135,941; Kyrgyzstan - 21,296; Tajikistan - 18,153).
