BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 16
By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:
Two new airlines have been established in Iran and will soon begin operating, said Ali Abedzadeh, chairman of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, Trend reports via IRNA.
Abedzadeh, who didn’t disclose the names of the companies, said that it became very difficult for Iran to buy and import new aircraft, but not impossible.
The chairman added that Iran has again complained to the International Civil Aviation Organization in protest of the US imposing sanctions on Iran’s airline industry.
“So far, it was impossible to overcome these obstacles, but Iran continues consultations to reduce the pressure of the US sanctions on the airline industry,” Abedzadeh said.
The chairman of the organization noted that the problem of refueling of Iranian aircraft in Europe continues.
Some Iranian planes reduce their load or the number of passengers or refuel in countries that allow doing so, Abedzadeh said.
The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and expanded the list of sanctions in several stages.
Iran has 150 passenger planes in its air fleet, and the country needs 500 planes.
