The new railcars provided with modern equipment will be supplied to the Baku Metro CJSC this year, Spokesman for the Baku Metro Bakhtiyar Mammadov told Trend.
“A three-year contract was signed between the Baku Metro and Russia’s Metrovagonmash railcar building plant in 2019 to supply railcars to Azerbaijan,” the spokesman said.
"Twenty new modern railcars (four trains) made upon special order of the Baku metro will be supplied to the Baku metro this year,” the spokesman said. “Taking into account the climatic conditions, the new railcars will be equipped with air conditioning system in accordance with modern standards. The railcars will not be very noisy. The trains also include head railcars, one for each train."
"Metrovagonmash railcar building plant will produce 20 railcars for the Baku metro, including the head ones annually from 2020 through 2022,” Mammadov added.
In total, in accordance with the contract concluded with Metrovagonmash railcar building plant in 2019, the contract envisages the purchase of 60 new railcars, which within the next three years will form 12 trains instead of railcars that will be decommissioned," the spokesman said.
"After obtaining the railcars, they will run through the lines,” the spokesman said. “Old railcars will be replaced with new ones after the end of their service life. Presently, the railcars used in red and green lines will be renewed and then the rest."
Presently, the construction work is underway in Baku as part of the conceptual development program. In accordance with the state program, the total length of Baku’s underground roads will reach 119.1 kilometers while the number of stations will reach 76.
