Turkmenistan, Afghanistan discuss construction of railway line

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16

Representatives of Turkmenistan's Türkmendemiryollary agency, the Demiryollary open-type joint-stock company and the Department of Railways of the Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan discussed the construction of the Aqina-Andkhoy railway line, the work carried out on the Turgundi-Herat railway project, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan portal.

The parties discussed optimization of transit cargo traffic and wagons that pass through the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The further development of the transport corridor between the countries participating in the Lapis Lazuli agreement was also considered.

The issuance of visas for workers in the sphere of railway transport and other issues were also highlighted.

On the part of Turkmenistan, Azat Atamyradov, Chairman of the Turkmendemiryollary Agency, participated in the discussions, and on the part of Afghanistan - Mohammad Yamma Shams, Director General of the Afghanistan Railways Department.

The agreement on the Lapis Lazuli route was signed on November 15, 2017 in Ashgabat.
