Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan discuss issues of road cargo transportation

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have discussed issues of road cargo transportation during the meeting of the Turkmen-Uzbek Commission for international road transport via videoconference on May 19, 2020 in Ashgabat, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was held at the level of Deputy heads of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

During a videoconference the sides exchanged views on activation of cooperation mechanisms in the field of transportation and transit of railway and road cargo across the state borders of the two countries. Issues related to the uninterrupted supply of goods, including coordinated actions of the parties to ensure food security were also discussed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held a videoconference on may 13, 2020, during which sides talked over the activation of Intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

There also was a meeting of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation in November 2019. During last year's meeting, the sides discussed opportunities for developing cooperation in the areas of transport and transit, including simplification of customs procedures.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were established on February 7, 1993. Uzbekistan has an Embassy in Ashgabat, as well as Turkmenistan has an Embassy in Tashkent.
