Kazakhstan’s Air Astana’s is currently working on relaunching flights on international routes as the quarantine measures are being lifted, Air Astana representative told Trend.
Earlier this month, Kazakhstan announced a decision to resume international flights to a number of countries. The flights are being gradually resumed to Turkey, China, South Korea, Thailand, Georgia and Japan as of Jun. 20, 2020.
Air Astana has already announced restoration of flights to Turkey and Georgia since Jun. 20, 2020.
Talking when the airline expects to be back to 2019 levels the official said that in the most optimistic scenario, the airline will operate not more than 65 percent of the planned flights by the end of 2020.
“There are multiple challenges before we can start talking about a complete recovery. We do not expect getting back to 2019 levels before 2023 and it may well be a different network than what we were operating prior to COVID-19,” the official said.
Air Astana is the flag carrier of the Republic of Kazakhstan, based in Almaty. Prior to quarantine restrictions it operated scheduled, domestic and international services on 64 routes from its main hub, Almaty International Airport, and from its secondary hub, Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport.
