Kazakhstan, China agree to boost railway cargo transportation

The volume of cargo transported between Kazakhstan and China via railways amounted to 8 million tons over first five months of 2020, which is 28 percent more than during the same period of 2020, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ, Kazakhstan Railways).

The topic was discussed within the framework of a videoconference between Kazakhstan’s and China’s railway authorities.

As was noted during the meeting, some 6 million tons of various cargo were transported via Kazakhstan’s Dostyk station, which is 24 percent more than during the same period of 2019. The volume of cargo transported via Kazakhstan’s Altynkol station was 2 million tons, which is 44 percent more than last year.

Within the framework of the meeting joint steps to increase the passage of trains through the border crossings Dostyk-Alashankou and Altynkol-Khorgos were discussed.

Thus, an agreement was reached on the delivery up to 16-18 trains per day and reception of up to 12 trains per day at the Dostyk station to the Alashankou station.

In turn, parties agreed to be receiving up to 14-16 trains along a narrow track and of up to 6-8 trains per day on a wide track at the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing.
