Iran launches overhaul workshop at Shahid Rajaee Port

TEHRAN, Iran, June 30

Trend:

A specialized workshop for repair and manufacturing of all types of electronic boards and telecommunication equipment has been launched with the help of a knowledge based company, Director General of Ports and Maritime Department in Hormozgan Province Allah-Morad Afifipour told Trend.

"The repairing unit also has the capacity for major overhaul of radar motherboards at Shahid Rajaee Port," he said.

"Iran is using the capacities of knowledge based companies to develop technology, provide up to date services and localize the science in this field despite the unilateral sanctions," Afifipour added.

"Old electronic boards in VTS radars affect their function, while lack of technical support from foreign companies due to the sanctions and expensive import of spare parts are the main challenges in this sector," the director general said.

"These problems are used by adversaries to create obstacles for the ships going through Iran's territorial waters; however, Iranian experts and knowledge based companies can use local capacities to provide services," he said.

"The workshop at Shahid Rajaee Port has been launched to achieve self-sufficiency and taking into account current conditions. The major overhaul of three main radar motherboards and four TC3 boards have been already completed by the help of a knowledge based company," he added.

The official noted that each motherboard costs $20,000 and price of one TC3 board is $10,000; thus, the overhaul saved foreign currency sources in the amount of $90,000.
