Volume of loaded, unloaded cargo at Iran’s Eastern railway stations increases

The volume of unloaded cargo at Iran's Eastern railway stations has been increased 337 percent during the 100 days of the current Iranian year (starting from March 20, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Reza Sharghi director general of the Eastern Railway, Trend reports citing Iran's Railway Company’s website.

According to Sharghi, 299,100 tons of cargo was unloaded during the period. However, 68,300 tons of cargo was unloaded in the same period last Iranian year.

Sharghi added that the volume of loaded cargo at Iran's Eastern Railway stations was 2.03 million tons in 100 days. This is an increase of 27 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The director general said that 1.57 million tons of cargo was loaded at Iran's Eastern Railway stations in the same period last Iranian year.

“The loaded cargo was mainly iron ore pellets and iron ore concentrate, coal and fluorine,” he said.

The iron ore and coal were sent to factories in the country, and fluorine was loaded on wagons heading to Turkey.

The railways under the Iran’s Eastern Railway are mainly in the South Khorasan and Yazd provinces of Iran.
