Turkmenistan, Turkey considering ways to effectively use transport corridors

Turkmenistan and Turkey are considering ways to effectively use transport corridors, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

This was stated during a videoconference that was held between the heads of transport departments of Turkmenistan and Turkey on July 8, 2020.

At the videoconference, the Turkmen side was represented by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Bayramgeldi Ovezov, heads of the Turkmendemiryollary (Turkmen Railways), Turkmenawtoulaglary (Turkmen Highways), Turkmenhowayollary (Turkmen Airlines), Turkmendenizderyayollary (Turkmen Sea and River Transportation) agencies.

The Turkish side was headed by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Adil Karaismailoglu. Deputies of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey Omer Fatih Sayan and Selim Dursun, heads of various transport departments of country also participated in the meeting.

The parties stressed the importance of developing cooperation in the transport sector. In particular, they noted the significance of effective use of transport corridors and air routes to improve trade relations.

Thus, new aspects of bilateral cooperation in the field of cargo transportation were discussed.

The Turkmen side noted the progress that has been made in the country's transport sector and its logistics capabilities.

The participants of the conference discussed the issues of Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lapis Lazuli) international transit transport corridor. In particular, the parties stressed the importance of implementing such projects to strengthen regional and international trade and economic relations.
