Uzbekistan, China and Kyrgyzstan discuss options for railroad to connect three countries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 16

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Uzbekistan, China and Kyrgyzstan have prepared three possible versions of the railway between the three countries, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Transport Ministry.

The project was discussed in a video conference held by Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan Zhanat Beishenov and representatives of Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment of National Development and Reform Commission of China.

The parties discussed further practical measures to implement the project of building the railway.

“Zhanat Beishenov noted that SWOT-analysis has been carried out on all three routes, as a result of which the combined track "Torugart - Arpa - Kosh-Dobo - Makmal - Jalal-Abad" is the most optimal from the point of view of forming/transportation of cargo flow, as well as further development of regions of Kyrgyzstan,” the message said.

The Chinese side noted that construction along the route proposed by the Kyrgyz side is a good option from a financial point of view, but the sides will consider other proposals too.

Taking into account these aspects, the sides agreed to continue discussions on choosing the most optimal route for the construction of the railway, as well as financial and economic issues, investment model of the project for the future operation of the railway and feasibility study.
