Number of containers handled in Georgian ports up

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the volume of goods transported by the Georgian routes has increased, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

In January-May 2020, the total volume of goods transported in the country amounted to 15.5 million tons, which is 3.3 percent more than in the same period in 2019.

The number of containers handled in the ports of Georgia amounted to 232,500, which is 0.16 percent more than the same period last year.

In the first five months of 2020, the cargo transshipped via Poti port amounted to 3.4 million tons. Compared to the same period in 2019, this indicator has not changed.

As for cargo turnover in other ports, their indicators have increased.

In the first five months of 2020, the cargo transshipped via Kulevi terminal amounted to 0.7 million tons. Compared to the same period in 2019, this indicator increased by 16 percent.

During the reporting period, the cargo transshipped via Batumi seaport reached 1.5 million tons (an increase of 15.3 percent), while via Supsa terminal - 1.8 million tons (an increase of 28.6 percent).
