BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

Over 18,547 containers were transported through the Baku International Sea Trade Port in TEU equivalent from January through June 2020, Trend reports citing the data of the port.

According to the report, the total volume of container transshipment through the port increased by 22 percent compared to the same period of last year (15,210 TEU in the first half of 2019).

"Due the closure of Azerbaijan's borders amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of passengers who used the services of the Baku port decreased by 31 percent compared to the same period of 2019 and stood at 13,776 persons," the report said.

As a result of the taken measures, the stable and reliable activity of the Middle Corridor and the Baku port, which is a part of it, during the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the main reasons for increasing the cargo transportation.

Baku International Sea Trade Port closely cooperates with the European Union (EU) in improving the operational efficiency of the port management and risk management. The Baku port, which already has ISO 9001: 2015, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certificates, implements the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its business processes and operations.
