Slovenia offers Azerbaijan to use Port of Koper

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.6

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

There are opportunities for ports from both Azerbaijan and Slovenia to cooperate, Slovenian Ministry of Economic Development and Technology told Trend.

“Port of Koper provides an excellent gateway for goods flow in and out of the European Union. We recommend it also for companies from Azerbaijan to take advantage of it. We are convinced there are opportunities for ports from both countries to cooperate,” said the ministry.

Talking about the overall status of bilateral economic ties, a source in the ministry went on to add that economic cooperation between Slovenia and Azerbaijan before the COVID-19 pandemic was relatively modest.

“It was based mainly on the trade and in the vast majority on the export of goods from Slovenia to Azerbaijan. In 2019 trade in goods between Slovenia and Azerbaijan reached the value of 17.19 million EUR (2018 – 26.9 million EUR). In regard to the COVID-19 pandemic we can assume that it surely had an impact on our bilateral trade. Currently we have data only for first four months of 2020 on bilateral trade that reached 6.68 million EUR,” said the ministry.

The source said Slovenia believes that there is certainly room for improving cooperation between the two countries.

“As perspective areas to increase bilateral economic cooperation we see: green technologies and recycling; renewable energy sources; telecommunication and ICT; e-government; construction and engineering; chemical and pharmaceutical industry; logistics and transport; automotive industry; tourism,” said the source.
