Passenger transportation drops in Azerbaijan amid coronavirus pandemic

The number of passengers transported by all types of vehicles in Azerbaijan amounted to over 766.5 million people from January through July 2020, which is 31.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports referring to the report of the State Statistical Committee.

Over the first seven months of 2020, 1.4 million passengers were transported by railway, which is 25 percent less compared to the same period of 2019. Meanwhile, the number of passengers transported by sea increased by 5.4 percent, making up 11,800 people.

At the same time, 463,500 passengers were transported by air, which is 68.7 percent less compared to the same period of last year, the committee said.

The passenger transportation by metro in the first seven months of this year dropped by 51.9 percent and amounted to 64.6 million people.

As reported, nearly 700 million passengers were transported by road, which is 28.8 percent less compared to the same period of last year.

From January through July 2020, the number of passengers transported by buses in the country dropped by 28.6 percent, amounting to 673.6 million people. Herein, 26.3 million passengers were transported by taxis, a decrease of 34 percent.
