Iranian minister: development of railway transportation with Turkey in spotlight

The development of railway transportation with Turkey is in the spotlight of Iran, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mohammad Eslami said during the event dedicated to the opening of the passenger hall at the Sero border checkpoint in West Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran), Trend reports citing the ministry.

The minister noted that in this regard, full connection of Iranian railways to Turkish railways is also a priority.

Eslami added that Iran has three official border checkpoints with Turkey. All three points including Bazargan, Sero and Razi are located in the West Azerbaijan Province.

He emphasized that with the spread of the coronavirus, Iran's borders with Turkey were completely closed, and after a while, the trade was resumed on the Razi border via railway.

"Currently, 100 trade wagons move between Iran and Turkey through the Razi border checkpoint daily," the minister said.

The passenger hall at the Sero border checkpoint was built on an area of 4,160 square meters at the cost of 350 billion rials (about $833,000).

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports by the Iranian officials, over 352,500 people have been infected, and 20,264 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 304,200 have reportedly recovered from the disease.
