Georgia's transit indicator increases

The number of freight vehicles crossing Georgia totaled 28,196 in July 2020, which is 5,837 or 26.1 percent more than in the same period in 2019, Trend reports via the Union of Oil Importers of Georgia.

From January through July 2020, the number of freight vehicles in transit via Georgia reached 166,367, which is 15.2 percent, or 21,944 units more than in the same period in 2019.

"All this takes place amidst the COVID -19 pandemic. It is undoubtedly a positive event for the Georgian economy, contributes to the strengthening of Georgia's transit function, increases budget revenues, and has a positive effect on the sale of diesel fuel and motor oils," the union said.

Meanwhile, for six months of 2020, 41 percent of oil products transported by rail were diesel fuel, 10 percent - light fuels, 19 percent - special gasoline, 11 percent - gas oil, 19 percent - other oil products.

In January-June 2020, 1.456 million tons of oil products were transported by rail, which is 0.4 percent more compared to the same period last year.
