Cargo, passenger traffic via Turkish Sabiha Gokcen Airport down

As many as 111,977 tons of cargo were transported through Turkey’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport from January through August 2020, declining by 57 percent compared to the same period of 2019, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the country’s domestic flights transported 57,020 tons of cargo, showing a 44-percent drop over the year.

At the same time, 54,957 tons of cargo were transported through Sabiha Gokcen Airport by international flights, having plunged by 65 percent year-on-year, the ministry said.

The Sabiha Gokcen Airport served over 10.5 million passengers during the eight months of this year, which is 55 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Some 7.1 million passengers were served on domestic flights over the reporting period, while a year earlier this indicator was 51 percent more.

In the past eight months of 2020, 3.4 million passengers were served on international flights, down 62 percent compared to the same months of last year.

Meanwhile, 75,567 flights were carried out through Sabiha Gokcen Airport, which is 51 percent less than in the same period of 2019.

From January through August 2020, 49,780 flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is 45 percent less than in the same period of last year.

International flights via Sabiha Gokcen Airport dropped by 59 percent over the year, amounting to 26,796 flights.

From January through August 2020, air traffic in Turkey decreased by 48.9 percent and amounted to 532,458 flights. Meanwhile, over 52.2 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports.

During the reporting period, more than 1.4 million tons of cargo were transported through all airports in the country.
