Road expansions on Azerbaijani-Russian border

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 18

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads is working on widening the road between the Khanoba, Shirvanovka, and Samur border checkpoints on the Azerbaijani-Russian border, Trend reports citing the agency.

The reconstruction of the road between the mentioned checkpoints is planned to be completed by the end of 2021, the agency said.

“This road was built in 1982. Due to many years of operation, the coating turned out to be unusable. The reconstruction of this road aims to further improve transport links with the Khanoba, Shirvanovka, and Samur border points, located on the border with Russia. Also, the road will be connected to the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation state border highway,” noted the agency.

Institute Azerelmitedgigatlayihe LLC of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads has developed a road project following category 1C, intending to widen the road into four lanes, the agency said.

Currently, the existing pavement of the road is being dismantled, the soil cover is being raised and widened to the level of natural relief, communication lines are being transferred, and other works.

Moreover, the "Environmental Impact Assessment" report, prepared with the aim of relocating green spaces, was sent to the State Environmental Expertise Agency of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. Appropriate feedback has already been received and work has begun on transplanting green spaces.
