On the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, two types of overpasses were built and repaired, concrete was reinforced and metal corrugated structures built, the Georgian administration of BTK told Trend.
In total, there are 36 overpasses on the Georgian section of this railway. Some 8 structures were restored, 18 new ones were built.
Railway overpasses are one of the important parts of the project and are necessary for the proper functioning of the transport network.
The corrugated metal structure is a modern construction method and significantly reduces the construction time of overpasses. The new BTK railway was the first project in which this method was first used throughout Georgia.
Meanwhile, 5 new bridges have been built on the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and 17 have been restored.
The BTK railway has been built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. It can greatly reduce the time of delivery of goods from China to Europe via Azerbaijan, which makes this route especially attractive.
