Uzbekistan Airways postpones creation of domestic low-cost airline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 6

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan Airways has decided not to create a low-cost airline yet, Trend reports referring to the First Deputy Chair of the National Airline Umid Khusanov.

“Yes, we were planning to create a low-cost airline within the Uzbekistan Airways. We reconsidered our plans and decided not to go forward with the idea for now. We plan to create a development strategy for Uzbekistan Airways,” said Khusanov.

In addition, Khusanov announced the revision of the tariff policy, the results of which can be seen after the COVID-19 pandemic situation improves.

“We have revised our tariff policy. Rates depend on costs. As part of this pandemic, we have fully worked out our cost structure, cost-cutting. I hope this will lead to the fact that after we fully earn on the market after the pandemic, there will be a result, and indeed passengers will see it,” he said.

Khusanov first mentioned the plan to establish a low-cost airline in February of 2018.

“We have started developing a certification program for a low-cost airline operator, which will be a subsidiary of the National Airline. There is already a strategic plan on this issue,” Khusanov said at the time.

Later, in March, by the Decree of the president of Uzbekistan, it was instructed to submit to the Cabinet of Ministers proposals on the creation of a low-cost airline at the Uzbekistan Airways NJSC by May 1, 2018.
