BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 8

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan supports Turkmenistan's initiatives to establish international partnership in the transport sector, Trend reports with reference to “Turkmenistan: Zolotoy Vek” (Turkmenistan: Golden Age).

This was said during a videoconference of the first meeting of Turkmen-Uzbek Business Council.

The countries cooperate in a number of areas, one of which is logistics. Thus, Uzbekistan aims to actively participate in the development of the network of East-West and North-South transport corridors which are designed to increase international transit cargo flows.

Also, the participants of the video meeting discussed priority areas in which they intend to intensify cooperation, in particular, trade and economic sphere, textile, construction, chemical and electronic industries, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, as well as the agro-industrial sector were highlighted.

Meanwhile, it was noted that cooperation in the agro-industrial complex has great prospects, taking into account the purchase of Uzbek agricultural machinery by Turkmenistan.

As earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan told Trend, several events and projects are planned for the next few years in the field of rail and road cargo transportation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The new projects will serve to further enhance bilateral cooperation, the Uzbek MFA had said.

"It is planned to expand cooperation by using the ports of the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to access European and Middle Eastern markets, the Black and Mediterranean Seas, including within the framework of the promising Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-the Caspian Sea-the South Caucasus transport corridor," added the MFA.
