Russian low-cost airline eyes to set up new flight routes to Uzbek cities

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 8

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Pobeda Russian low-cost airline plans to set up 12 flight destinations to various cities of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing data from the Federal Air Transport Agency in Russia.

In particular, the Russian airline intends to open flights between Russia’s Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan and Uzbekistan’s Samarkand, Bukhara, Nukus, Fergana, Karshi, Navoi, Urgench.

The number of flights varies from three to four times in a week.

At the same time, the flight approvals do not mean that the Pobeda airline automatically receives the right to operate flights on these routes now.

The permit will become effective only after the opening of air links with Uzbekistan.

Earlier it was reported that the Open Skies regime has been introduced with the possibility of further prolongation in Uzbekistan for a period of two years until the end of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) winter 2022/2023 season. This applies to the airports of the cities of Karshi, Nukus, Termez, Bukhara, Navoi, Urgench (without any restrictions), as well as Andijan, Fergana, Namangan and Samarkand (Fifth Freedom of The Air).

Fifth Freedom of The Air is the right or privilege, in respect of scheduled international air services, granted by one State to another State to put down and to take on, in the territory of the first State, traffic coming from or destined to a third State.

This means that the Russian airline will be able to get unimpeded access to airports and organize the number of flights that it considers effective.

Pobeda is a Russian low-cost airline, a subsidiary of the Aeroflot group, based in Moscow's Vnukovo airport. It was founded on September 16, 2014, to replace Dobrolet low-cost airline, which stopped flying due to the sanctions of the European Union.

The daily flight time of the airline's aircraft in 2017 was the highest in the world amounting to 15-16 hours, which was higher than that of the world's largest low-cost airlines - American Southwest and Irish Ryanair.
