Container traffic from China to Georgia declines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Container shipments from China to Georgia are decreasing, Trend reports via Georgian Transport Corridor Research Center.

Center President Paata Tsagareishvili says that in the context of the global coronavirus epidemic in the world, the reduction in passenger traffic has dealt a serious financial blow to air transport, although it has significantly reduced transportation on container routes from China to Europe.

According to him, in contrast to the reduction in passenger traffic by air and freight traffic by sea, land corridors have significantly increased, in particular, container traffic from China to Europe and back.

"In parallel with the current global trends in the transport market of Georgia, it is necessary to work with neighboring countries and introduce the possibility of replacing a single operator of container transport. In this case, the shipper will no longer have to conclude separate contracts with sea and rail carriers, and only one operator will be responsible for the cargo and it is also important that such an operator is financially stable," says Tsagareishvili.
