Passenger transportation decreases in Azerbaijan due to COVID-19 pandemic

The volume of passenger traffic by all types of transport in Azerbaijan in the first nine months of 2020 amounted to 931.7 million people, showing a decrease of 37.2 percent compared to the same period, Trend reports citing a report of the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

From January through September 2020, the number of passengers transported by rail decreased by 34.5 percent year on year, amounting to 1.67 million people. Meanwhile, 17,100 people were transported by sea, an annual increase of 8.2 percent.

The committee’s report also said that the number of passengers transported by air in the reporting period slumped by 75.2 percent over the year and amounted to 522,400 people. Around 522,400 people were transported by metro, a decrease of 59 percent.

According to the committee, 859.9 million passengers were transported by road, an annual drop of 26.7 percent.

During the specified period, bus passengers decreased by 96.3 percent, and taxi passengers - by 3.7 percent compared to a year earlier.
