Review of main events in  transport sector of Azerbaijan for week

This week, the Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee met with the President of the Azerbaijani AZAL Jahangir Asgarov, Trend reports referring to the Pakistani Embassy in Baku.

At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in the field of civil aviation, as well as long-term plans to increase passenger traffic and cargo transportation.

The ambassador informed Asgarov that more than 40,000 Pakistani citizens visited Azerbaijan in 2019, and this number is likely to continue to grow when the COVID-19 pandemic ends and restrictions on implementation of international flights are lifted.

Also this week, the freshly-revealed data of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC said that over the nine months of 2020, the CJSC's cargo transportation amounted to 10.8 million tons.

As reported, more than 3.85 million tons of the volume was imported from abroad, which is 35 percent of the total freight traffic.

"More than three million tons from January through September 2020 accounted for transit of containers," the CJSC data said.

During nine months of 2020, the export cargo transportation of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC amounted to 1.85 million tons. Exports accounted for 17 percent of the total freight traffic on railways.

"More than 2.125 million tons from January through September 2020 fell on transit of containers, which is 19 percent of all cargo transportation," the CJSC data said.

In 2019, the total investment in fixed assets of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC amounted to 1.001 billion manats ($588.8 million). Funds allocated from the state budget within the framework of state capital investments amounted to 653.9 million manats ($384.6 million).
